FAFSA, CADAA, Cash for College Workshops, & Financial Resources
FAFSA/CADAA is expected to open December 1, 2024. Each college and career school can have its own FAFSA deadline. For the 2025-2026 academic year, the priority deadline for California state financial aid programs, including Cal Grant, is April 2, 2025. For community college students, the deadline is September 2, 2025.
Which application should I complete?
The FAFSA or the CADAA? Students should only complete one application, either the FAFSA or CADAA. Students should complete a FAFSA if they are U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents (green card holders), or have Refugee status, have been granted Asylum, or are T-Visa holders. Students should complete CADAA if they are undocumented regardless of DACA status, if they have Temporary Protected Status (TPS), or are U-Visa holders
How does a contributor access the FAFSA?
The new FAFSA is a role-based application, with each contributor having a separate section to complete. Either a parent or a student can start the FAFSA and invite the other person to contribute to the application. The inviting contributor provides the name, date of birth, email address, and social security number of the additional contributor when requested. The email address does not need to be the same email address the additional contributor used or will use to create their StudentAid.gov account (formerly FSA ID). For parents who do not have a social security number, please select the box for “My parent does not have a social security number.”
Your contributors will each need their own StudentAid.gov account too, which should also be created before they enter the FAFSA form. “Contributor” is a new term on the FAFSA form—it refers to anyone (you, your spouse, your biological or adoptive parent, or your parent’s spouse) required to provide information on your FAFSA form.
As a student, you’ll be required to enter your Social Security number (SSN) to create a StudentAid.gov account unless you’re a citizen of the Freely Associated States. However, beginning with the 2024–25 FAFSA form, your contributors who don’t have an SSN can create a StudentAid.gov account to complete their section of your FAFSA form.
If a contributor has an SSN, you’re required to provide this number when inviting them to contribute to your FAFSA form. Do not indicate that a contributor doesn’t have an SSN simply because you don’t know that number. If they do in fact have an SSN, indicating that they don’t will cause delays when they try to create an account and contribute the required information on your form.
For those completing a FAFSA form, you need the following information:
Your Social Security Number
Your A-Number (if you're not a U.S. citizen)
The 2025–26 FAFSA form asks for2023 tax information. Federal income tax returns, records of child support received; and your current balance of cash, savings, and checking accounts (Note: You must provide consent and approval to disclose your federal tax information to be eligible for federal student aid.)
Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable), net worth of investments, businesses, and farms
Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
An FSA ID (account username and password) to log in to StudentAid.gov and start the FAFSA form electronically
FAQs -
Do parents need to create an FSA ID before they complete the financial questions on the application, or can they create FSA ID at the end when they need to sign it?
a. Students and parents should create an FSA ID prior to applying for the FAFSA.
A parent created and FSA ID previously in years past. Can they still use that?
a. Yes, the parent will use the same FSA ID they previously created.
A parent I worked with had created an FAFSA ID 10 years ago but now she is neither able to retrieve the details nor create a new account. How can this issue be resolved?
a. If the parent already has an FSA ID, they should not create a new one. If the parent no longer has access to the email account or phone number that is associated with their FSA ID, they should contact the FSA Information Center (FSA IC) for assistance with unlocking their account: https://studentaid.gov/help-center/contact

Once your form is processed, you’ll receive a copy of your FAFSA Submission Summary, which summarizes the information you provided on your FAFSA form. Review your FAFSA Submission Summary and make sure all of the information is complete and accurate.
Your FAFSA Submission Summary will include your Student Aid Index (SAI). Schools use your SAI to determine your eligibility for a Federal Pell Grant and other federal and nonfederal student aid. Learn more about how your SAI is calculated.
You can check the status of an online FAFSA form at any time by logging in to StudentAid.gov and selecting your FAFSA submission from the "My Activity" section of your account Dashboard.
If there is any missing or incorrect information, complete or correct your FAFSA form as soon as possible. Once your FAFSA form is processed, your Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) is sent to the colleges or career schools you listed on your FAFSA form. Those colleges and career schools are responsible for creating your aid offer and disbursing your financial aid. However, listing a college or career school on your FAFSA form is generally not sufficient to receive aid at that school, as most schools don’t create aid packages for every applicant who lists the school on their FAFSA form. Contact the financial aid office at the college or career school you plan to attend to find out if there are additional requirements for receiving financial aid and to learn more about the process of applying for aid at that school."
Some students may be eligible to use CalKIDS funds immediately upon enrollment at an institution of higher education. They can use CalKIDS funds to pay for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and certain room and board costs. Use your SSID to check if you are eligible to participate (low-income students may be eligible). The SSID is on the bottom left of the transcript.

The UC application and admission process is a year-long cycle.
August 1: The UC application opens. Students can begin to craft each part of their application. Remember, since UC does not use letters of recommendation, interviews, or portfolios unless required for admission to a specific major, the UC application is the only way for students to present and advocate for themselves. Some campus majors do require supplemental materials, such as Nursing, or some fine arts majors. Students should speak with the campuses they’re interested in for information on applications for those majors. The UC application will also indicate whether a supplemental application or materials are required.
October 1 – December 2: UC students can submit applications beginning October 1. The deadline has been extended to December 2 for Fall 2025 applicants given the timing of the Thanksgiving holiday. The typical deadline is November 30. Applicants are not considered on a first-come, first-serve basis, so applicants should take their time in filling out the application thoroughly before submitting. Presenter note: The UC Office of the President has partnered with CaliforniaColleges.edu to allow applicants to link their accounts on CaliforniaColleges.edu and the UC Application. This link will enable applicants to import course data into the application beginning with Fall 2025 applicants. Important: Once submitted, applicants can update very little in the UC application. Students should ensure their UC application is accurate and complete before submission.
December– March 2: All students should submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a California Dream Act Application (CADAA). The majority of students at UC receive financial aid and scholarships. We’ll cover that in more detail later in this presentation. Campuses use information from the FAFSA and CADAA for both admission and scholarships. Presenter note: The redesigned 2025-26 FAFSA is expected to open by December 1, however, this is subject to change. (updated on August 8, 2024) 4
March: First-year admission decisions are released throughout the month of March. Campuses do not all release decisions on the same day, but will have all first-year decisions released by March 31.
May 1: This is the deadline for students to submit the Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). Students must submit the SIR by that date in order to ensure a place on campus in the fall. Students may only SIR to one UC campus.
July: Campuses use self-reported information to admit students, so UC does not require (nor want) students to submit any transcripts when they apply for admission. Instead, UC will ask for official transcripts only from admitted students who have submitted their SIR by May 1. Official transcripts for all institutions attended are due July 1, with AP/IB exam results due by July 15.
Fall 2025 Priority Application Filing Period for the fall 2025 term is October 1, 2024 to December 2, 2024. The Cal State Apply (CSU) application for fall 2025 will be available on October 1, 2024 at 6 a.m. PST. Students are encouraged to wait until that time for the new application link.
*The priority application filing period may vary based on your enrollment type or status (e.g., graduate, international, returning, veteran applicant). Many campuses and majors still accept applicants after the priority period. Check to see if the campus(s)/major(s) you're interested in are still accepting applications. This information is subject to change. If you need more detailed information, please contact the campus admissions office directly.

The UC application deadline is fast approaching. UC applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time) on November 30, 2023. Applicants should be aware that once the application has been submitted, very little personal information can be changed. First year and transfer applicants should review the information provided in the “After you apply” webpage for more information on application changes post-submission

Does the community college have a seamless transfer option? Does it offer the right classes and prerequisites needed for your program? Ask to see a roadmap of classes per semester to stay on track. Pay attention to the articulation agreements by exploring Assist.org to see which classes will transfer over. However, you always need to verify the transferability with your accepting transfer school. Attending a junior college for the first 1-2 years can possibly help cut down costs such as avoiding dorm fees.

ROTC stands for Reserve Officer Training Corps, and this program is offered in 1,700 universities and colleges throughout the US. ROTC helps college students, male and female, to prepare to enter a military career as officers in one of the three branches in which it is offered: Army, Air Force, and the Navy/Marines. The Coast Guard doesn’t have an ROTC program for students interested in a career in this particular military branch.
Students in each branch of the ROTC benefit from scholarships, monthly stipends and a career that is guaranteed after graduation. Students in ROTC also derive benefits from learning how to develop valued leadership skills, discipline and good physical fitness.
Space is VERY LIMITED! Seniors and Juniors will have priority. You must bring a Fully Charged TUSD Student Laptop in order to take the test. Must complete an activity form to get 1st and 2nd teachers' approval - Click Here

How to write a no-experience resume objective -
1. Read the job description closely
2. Brainstorm your best qualities
3. Reflect on any achievements
4. State the position and location
"How should a teen make a resume for the first time? -A teenage resume will not typically contain much work experience, and while their first job might be in a shop, cafe, sports coaching, or dog walking, it is still important that they let their first employer know what attitude they will bring to the role. They can show their mental aptitude by including their academic achievements, share their hobbies to demonstrate an ability to hit their goals, and share their thoughts on why they want the job. Motivation is everything when you are 15-17."
How to make a resume for a first job or with little experience?
"To write a resume with no work experience, you need to tell the story of your potential. This doesn't mean making up some fairy tale future - you can still be perfectly logical and credible when you outline the next steps in your career.
Your education, internships, volunteering and various projects and hobbies will likely contain the most fascinating insights into who you are as a person. You might be surprised at just how many transferable skills you actually possess when you sit down to make your resume for a first job."
Postings will change as positions are filled. You must do your own job search, this is for reference only. Always review the company's requirements and job description directly. Best of luck in the job hunt!
Make sure that you meet the minimum 2.0 GPA and less than 15 hours Saturday School requirements. Work Permits are an application process, not automatic.
